Phenibut (beta-phenyl-GABA) is a central depressant used to treat a wide range of ailments including alcoholism, depression, and stress disorder. Phenibut, also known as fenibut, is sold under the brand names of Noofen and Citrocard.
It was developed in the 1960s, and has since been employed as a prescribed drug to relieve tension, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and other conditions. It's not FDA approved for clinical use in the USA. It is sold as a supplement, but withdrawal and dependency have been reported in people who aren't under the supervision of doctor. Health benefits of phenibut are based on studies in animals. However, not enough information is available to show effects of phenibut in humans. Phenibut might have nootropic (cognition improving) benefits, and may improve motivation, attention, and concentration. Side effects of phenibut include depression and irritation. An overdose of Phenibut can result in lowered body temperature, muscle relaxation and sleepiness. I have read that phenibut has been great for some people who suffer from anxiety and also as a mood enhancer. The side effects and negative reviews still scare me though. I may have to give it a try in the near future. I mean it is legal...how bad could it be?
